1962-1969 Meccano 6 Model 02 shipyard crane p.jpg

The finished crane. I remember this model as one of my childhood´s favourite (no plates to be bended!), and it was one of the first I built when I got a brand new Meccano 7 for my eight birthday, on 1965 (thanks forever, dad!) This crane looked sooooo big to me! By the way, I lived then in Venezuela, and there was just one shop in the capital city which imported Meccano. Silver-yellow-black sets arrived there much later, around 1969.

Hi, Michael!

Thanks fpr your always kind comments.

Giving the horizontal #1 strips a bit more spacemnet, for instance using Metallus-#11 brackets (3/4" wide), would even allow the use of #20 flanged wheels, which surely would run nice on rails.

The many improvements made to this Shipyard Crane have resulted in a much more satisfactory and serviceable model. For example; besides being kinder on the floor surface, the substitution of 1½" Pulleys for the original's Bush Wheels and Wheel Discs, creates a possibility for running on rails.
